Our Founding
During graduate school, Lumafluor founder Larry Katz addressed the problem of how to label different populations of neurons in living brain slices by creating a novel technology, fluorescent latex microspheres (Katz et. al., Nature,1984). He subsequently refined the technology to include IX Retrobeads (Katz and Iarovici, Neuroscience, 1990). These technologies continue to drive discovery decades later, and have been used in a wealth of applications even Katz could not envision.
Lumafluor Today
We have always been a small, family-owned business whose primary goal is to keep a useful technology available for the lowest price to the broadest scientific community. Since
Katz's death, we have been run by his spouse and former colleague.
